The Unexpected Bookkeeper is the brainchild of our CEO Jodi Porteous, who also delivers coaching and training across Karratha in her mission to help small business owners save money, make money and get tax compliant!  

This isn’t just a course. It’s a course, it’s a library, and a community. Meet other Mums and Dads doing their best, and share experiences with people who really, genuinely, “get it.” 

Why are you launching the Unexpected Bookkeeper? 

The Unexpected Bookkeeper is built on our team’s years of experience as Accountants and Bookkeepers in a small town. We have seen the effects money management can have on businesses, from bankruptcy to success. The effects of money management in business also ripples out to the employees, partners, and the community too.  

We designed this course to help Mums and Dads who end up doing the bookkeeping at the kitchen table, often with kids or other demands on their time as well as the behind the scenes of running a business.  

Hundreds of our customers are in the same boat – and feel overwhelmed, lost and isolated, unsure of where to ask for help, or if help even exists!  

Our mission is to share our skills in friendly, collaborative ways, that help our clients long term, not just with quick fixes. We do offer bookkeeping services in our accountancy firm, but we also recognize the hard work and cost effectiveness of doing it yourself. We as a team are really excited about delivering this course, and we hope you are too!  

How can the Unexpected Bookkeeper help a small business? 

Over the years we have refined our financial assistance and we provide a mixed Profit First and Xero experience to our longest clients. We have taken this approach for several reasons.  

• Profit First works, and we’ve tested it time and time again. Our team have now devoted time and money to becoming experts and Profit First certified, so we know how and when to leverage your money to reach for your goals.  

• Xero is the best software that is cost effective, easy to use, and also additional great features such as in-built reporting and forecasting features that help you to build your business’ future.  

• Xero is also BAS and ATO compliant for Australian Taxation purposes, and regular ongoing Money Days will keep your finances under YOUR control.  

What’s included in the Unexpected Bookkeeper?  

When you join the Unexpected Bookkeeper, you’ll get instant access to a library of videos Jodi and our team have produced to help you with your taxes, BAS and bookkeeping needs. This resource is great for people who already know exactly what you need help with, and can research first and ask questions later.  

Regular group Zoom meetings with our Profit First Certified Accountants and others in the community! Jodi is on hand to answer questions and also helps with mindset and her warm, friendly manner and decades of experience means all questions are welcome. The only dumb question is one that is never asked! Our group zoom chats are also open for discussion and meeting others. Bring a coffee and enjoy the time!  

We will also provide co-working sessions. Also known as body-doubling, having someone else working “next” to you on Zoom can help with focus, productivity and the feeling of isolation. Simply having someone to occasionally say a few words to while working is a great way to improve mental health, and helps to develop working relationships.
