Our Journey Towards a Team Retreat
Oct 07, 2024At Northwest Accountancy, we've embraced a travel theme in our business for several years now. From incorporating flight codes into the work we do, to designing graphics and wording centred around journeys, it’s become an integral part of our identity. Our theme symbolises more than just work; it reflects the journey we take with our clients and as a team.
Back in February 2023, during our strategic planning session, Jodi expressed her desire for a mid-year office closure. The aim was simple: to alleviate pressure and give our team a much-needed break. By May 2023, we had formulated a plan to make this a reality. Using the Profit First system, we decided to set aside 1% of our income into a dedicated team travel account. Slowly but surely, this would allow us to accumulate the funds to close the office for a week, giving the entire team an opportunity to travel, relax, and connect.
The Need for a Central Meeting Point
When our office was solely based in Karratha, it was easy to organise team gatherings—whether it was weekends out or downtime on the islands. However, as we’ve grown and expanded our team across multiple locations—Perth, Karratha, Melbourne, and even the Philippines—it became clear that we needed a more central place to meet up.
Once we hit our first target of $10,000, we chose Bali as the ideal destination. Bali's central location and accessible flights made it the perfect spot. With our funds, we’ve been able to cover accommodation, flights, and meals for the entire team, as well as plan a team excursion day and some professional training.
A Rewarding Experience
The experience of accumulating this money and planning a team travel experience has been incredibly rewarding. We’ve been carefully tracking the balance of our travel account over the last year and a half, and it’s a testament to the power of steady financial progress. When you work towards a goal, week by week, the possibilities are endless.
We’re all eagerly awaiting our Bali adventure from the 4th to the 9th of November 2024. It's more than just a retreat—it’s an opportunity to strengthen our team bond, reflect on our journey so far, and recharge for the exciting work ahead.
The Power of Planning and Financial Progress
This experience highlights an important lesson: small, consistent steps towards financial goals can result in something truly special.
